ASBOG FG Prep Course Now Available

ASBOG introduces a new online preparatory course designed to aid candidates in their preparations for the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology (FG) exam.  The 8-hour modular program was developed by a distinguished panel of licensed academic professional geologists from across the nation.  The course provides an overview of topics tied to FG exam domains as well as interactive quizzes. Participants will have the flexibility to select one of three course packages to best suit their individual needs. Options include the Full Course (including all eight study modules), or one of the more focused study courses - the Core Domain Bundle (including five study modules) or the Applied Domain Bundle (four study modules).

Candidates interested in the Prep Course can view a free comprehensive overview video of the FG Prep Course contents (LINK).  Additional information can also be found on the ASBOG website (LINK).

KSBTP may consider the ASBOG FG Prep Course for CEUs should you be audited. Please submit completion certificates for each domain.

Value of Licensure

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES,) has developed campaigns supporting the value and importance of licensure.  Their videos and social media campaigns aim to educate policy makers and others about the underlying reason for continued licensure of technical professions.

Below we have posted a video created by NCEES which highlights the importance of licensure. Additional NCEES videos supporting licensure may also be found through the link. You are encouraged to view these short videos.

Investigators Needed

KSBTP is currently seeking licensed professionals in each of the technical professions to serve as investigators on behalf of the Board.  Investigators must be in good standing with the Board, have no prior disciplinary action, reside in Kansas and be willing to contract with KSBTP. State employees are not eligible. Investigators are retained on an as-needed basis. If you are chosen as an investigator, you will be contacted directly by KSBTP staff. If you are interested, please send an email to ksbtpadmin@ks.gov and attach a copy of your current resume. (Professional Engineers: please include your area of expertise; such as: mechanical, civil, etc.)

What's the Process?

The Complaint Committee may vote to appoint one or more investigators to a case. A director of the Board office will then contact an investigator in the area to see if they currently have the availability to accept assignment. Upon confirmation of availability the Board office will send the investigator all information received on the alleged violation.

The investigator must independently track their hours, mileage, and any incidental expenses to be reimbursed. Hourly rates are agreed upon in the contract and will be paid upon submission of investigative report. Board staff will assist the investigator by providing any contact information on file and license verifications as requested.

Regulation Revision

Regulation 66-7-1 has been revised and went into effect January 28, 2022.  Rules and Regulations - Kansas State Board of Technical Professions (ks.gov)

Important Updates to K.A.R. 66-8-3 and K.A.R. 66-14-1

Kansas has decoupled! Professional Engineer applicants may now test before meeting the four-year experience requirement.  All requirements must be completed before licensure. Please utilize the Application for Professional Engineer Examination.

K.A.R. 66-14-1 now requires that 24 of the required 30 CEUS be related to health, safety, property and welfare (HSPW). Licensees may not obtain more than 10 CEUS in any 24-hour period. Five self-study CEUS are allowed with proof of course completion.  Kansas rules and regulations must be met to satisfy the continuing education requirement.
